Icelandic measures for remote workers put in place

The Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Innovation, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs have put in place measures to enable non-EEA foreign nationals to reside in Iceland for up to six months and telework for foreign companies. With the measure, those foreign citizens, who are exempt from the visa requirements, will be allowed to apply for a long-term visa in Iceland for teleworkers and bring their families without having to move their legal domicile to the country or obtain Icelandic ID numbers.

Double border screening for all arriving passengers

The Government of Iceland has decided to impose more comprehensive border-screening measures as of 19 August. All arriving passengers must choose between a 14-day quarantine and a double testing procedure along with a quarantine for 5-6 days.

Testing for international arrivals could start in June

The Government of Iceland has today announced it is expected to start easing restrictions on international arrivals no later than 15 June 2020, while from 15 May some professionals arriving in Iceland including scientists, filmmakers and athletes will eligible for a modified quarantine. The exact details of the revisions for business travellers and tourists will be decided by the Government’s multisector working group, however it is expected they will give travelers the choice between a test for the virus on arrival or a two-week quarantine. ​

The Icelandic Government today announced a new Climate Strategy, intended to boost efforts in cutting net emissions. The new measures are to help Iceland meet its Paris Agreement targets for 2030 and reach the government‘s ambitious aim to make Iceland carbon neutral before 2040.

Statement on Responsible Fisheries in Iceland

In 2007, the Statement on Responsible Fisheries in Iceland was released. The statement was a response to market demands for sustainable utilization of marine resources and was designed to inform buyers on how fisheries management is conducted in Iceland and that controls would be based on the best scientific knowledge. It also stated that the Government undertakes to obey international law and agreements on access to marine resources, which they have signed.
