      The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Icelandic health technology company Össur, will be financing a pilot project on prosthetic solutions for twenty individuals receiving care at the rehabilitation hospital in Dnipro, located in eastern Ukraine.

      The Joint Expeditionary Force Activity Nordic Warden

      This week, the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) has begun a month-long series of protective military activities which sees multiple Maritime and Air units contributing to the security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure across Northern Europe. This JEF Response Option activity, called NORDIC WARDEN, follows the similar deployment by the JEF in December 2023 – the first of its kind, following a JEF Leaders’ announcement in October.

The EU appreciates the determined efforts by the US, Egypt and Qatar in facilitating negotiations to bring an end to the war between Israel and Hamas, while ensuring Israel’s security, to which the EU remains fully committed. Too many civilian lives have been lost

      NATO’s cyber defence exercise Locked Shields 2024 has concluded with Iceland participating in a joint team with Sweden, the newest member of the Alliance. The exercise is organized and executed by NATOs Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, of which Iceland is a member.

      Iceland hosts NATO’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Conference in Reykjavik

      Over 200 cyber security experts from NATO member states took part in NATO’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Conference in Reykjavík on 9-11 April. During the conference experts discussed the principal cyber security threats and challenges facing member states. The conference was co-hosted by NATO Joint Intelligence and Security Division and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs with the support of Iceland’s national Computer Emergency Response Team, CERT-IS.

      UN Human Rights Council adopts resolution on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran

      The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution that addresses the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran put forward by a core group led by Iceland. The resolution renews the mandate of the Special Rapporteur to monitor and report regularly on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In addition, it extends for one year the mandate of the independent international fact-finding mission (FFM) which collects, analyses and preserves evidence on serious human rights violations following the death in custody of Jina Mahsa Amini and the subsequent nationwide protests in the autumn of 2022.
