Among the misconceptions which have been promoted is the claim that the policy has been adopted by the Icelandic authorities of preventing mothers from giving birth to children with Down's syndrome

      Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, Minister for Foreign Affairs, urged United Nations member states to respect fundamental human rights in his speech to the UN Human Rights Council this morning. He expressed deep concern about the violence in Syria and Yemen and called on the authorities in the Philippines to allow independent monitors to assess the human rights situation there.
