      Assessment of the Work of the Welfare Watch

      The Ministry of Welfare gave the Social Science Research Institute of the University of Iceland the task of assessing and mapping the work of the Welfare Watch, which was set up in 2009 following the economic collapse.

      Parental Leave in Iceland – Bringing the Fathers in

      <p>The Icelandic Act on Maternity/Paternity and Parental Leave underwent significant changes in the year 2000. The leave was extended from six months to nine, parents who were active in the labor market were paid 80% of their average salaries during the leave and the payments were to come from a specific fund, financed through an insurance levy.</p>
