Iceland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States

Iceland has today taken over the Presidency of Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) from Poland.

Iceland will during its Presidency place resilience at the centre of its programme. It will continue to build on the practical cooperation and achievements of previous presidencies, in line with the CBSS’s three long-term and mutually reinforcing priorities:

• Safe and Secure Region,
• Sustainable and Prosperous Region,
• Regional Identity.

The Council of the Baltic Sea States was formed in 1992 and is made up of the Nordic countries, Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, as well as the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Germany and Poland, as well as the European Union. Russia´s membership was suspended in March 2022.
