Visa to Iceland

Iceland is a member of the Schengen Area.

A valid Schengen visa issued by any Schengen State is valid for travel throughout the Schengen Area, including Iceland.

Japanese nationals are generally exempt from visa requirements for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, business, or visiting family and friends.

The Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo is responsible for handling Schengen visa applications on behalf of Iceland in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Schengen visa applications must be submitted through VFS Global, the official visa application service provider for Iceland. The Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo does not accept visa applications directly from applicants.

VFS Global will collect visa applications and forward them to the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo for assessment and decision-making.

The Embassy wishes to remind all applicants that Schengen visa applications can be lodged up to six months before the intended date of travel.

The standard processing time for a visa application is up to 15 calendar days from the date the application is lodged.

In certain cases, where additional assessment or supporting documentation is required, the processing time may be extended to a maximum of 45 calendar days.

Applicants who wish to travel during the peak season (March to June) are advised to plan ahead and apply as early as possible. Please bear in mind that it can take several days to secure an appointment with VFS Global.
