How much will the referendum cost?

The National Electoral Commission (Landskjörstjórn) estimates the cost of conducting the referendum at approximately ISK 500 - 600 million.

This estimate is based on the cost of the last presidential election, which is considered comparable in scale.

The largest expenses would be: the conduct of advance voting; tallying by regional electoral committees; printing and distribution of ballot materials; and contributions to municipalities based on the regulation on cost-sharing between the Icelandic state and local authorities.

The National Electoral Commission will also produce informational material ahead of the referendum.
