Defence and Security Policy

Translated version of the Parliamentary Resolution on a Defence and Security Policy approved by the Althing on 3 February 2026.

The objective of Iceland‘s defence and security policy is to safeguard the independence, sovereignty, democratic governance, territorial integrity of Iceland, the security of its citizens, and the protection of its system of governance and critical national infrastructure against military threats. The policy was adopted unanimously by parliament in February 2026.
